Gay Marriage in California

So at about 1:00 today, and after 2 years of deliberation, the California Supreme Court announced that it is unconstitutional to disallow same-sex marriages in the state. Want some tiresome legalese? Granted. My friend directed me to p. 120-121, which is a relatively readable portion.

I'm assuming this is exciting, yes? I'm hesitant to pick out a cumberbund just yet because a) I'm politically/legally ignorant, b) I don't know if I want black, white, or grey at my wedding, and c) the issue has had this torrid history... and I also haven't gotten to read any reactions, so I'm forced to come up with my own opinions, and that's never very easy for me. :-/

But my informed, worldly lawyer friend mentioned that he believes the CT and U.S. courts may use this in upcoming decisions. NY also has a pending decision, if I'm not mistaken. The three states plus MA make up a fair portion of the U.S. population.

So I suppose I'll go ahead, pop a cork, and drink to the Supreme Court of California. Thanks for being rational! I knew republicans weren't all bad. Now let's just see how this plays out.

UPDATE: I just realized I never linked to an actual news article so here you go.

Everything is Illuminated

Check out what I got in the mail yesterday along with a generous check.

Awkward Mail

Usually SCOTT DADs are just checks with a piece of paper that says "SCOTT DAD" but this one had a news clipping in it.

It's weird because since I came out 11 years ago, my dad hasn't once mentioned my sexuality or said the word "gay." It kinda bothers me that this might be the only thing he understands about my lifestyle. Anyway I'm going to call him and tell him I have an itchy rash.

Jew Nose

In other news I've been really tired lately and take 2-hour naps every day. Don't be jealous. It actually sucks because I have to clean my apartment for The Architect to come tomorrow but I didn't. I bought him his favorite things to drink, though, so I'm hoping he'll be SO HAPPY with his XXX Vitamin Water that he turns a blind eye to my slovenly ways and also forgives me for sleeping through our date.

Mess

Now I'm eating mango sorbet and watching Everything is Illuminated because I don't clean after 9:00 and I'm 20 minutes into it. It's trying way too hard to be quirky. Elijah Wood's character is especially annoying but what else is new?

Ok, now I'm 33 minutes into it and it's better.

Top 5 Reasons I Am Fed Up with Men

5. Ben didn't call me back.

The bastard.

4. I can't seem to get a blind date.

And by blind, I mean literally. There's nothing hotter to me than seeing a guy wave that stick thing around. Blind boyfriends come with advantages beyond the luxury of not having to look good every day. For one, they can't check out other guys unless you describe them first. Further, if you catch them flirting with someone, you can just say "Don't be fooled, he's looks like Lily Tomlin" and that's the end of it. And most importantly, you can sneak out of the house unnoticed, and by the time they realize it, you'll be halfway to whatever illicit activity suits your fancy. Just make sure to take the stick thing with you so they can't follow. I think it doubles as a dowsing rod for treachery.

The only drawbacks to a blind boyfriend are that they break everything and they can't tell what you're feeling without touching your face. I can live with that. If there are any blind boys reading my blog... I mean listening to it on JAWS (dun dahn dun dahn dun dahn), get a friend to click the comments link and hit me up. I'm a single non-smoker. I'm also a man, incidentally, but that shouldn't matter either way. If you're heterosexual, I can speak in a high-pitched voice and whine about my feelings a lot, and you won't know the difference.

3. I'm having a Penis Ugly Week.

I go through these phases now and then where I think penises are ugly and sex is gross. They never last long, but they're pretty intense. I usually try to get over it by looking at my "favorite" videos on xTube, but when I tried that this morning all I could think was: "Oh, sick! I can't believe I used to DO that." A few days without touching myself and it will pass. They're usually followed by heavily slutty phases, so get ready.

2. The only relationship-oriented men are the boring and the ugly.

Every unappealing man I meet wants a boyfriend. Every charismatic, attractive man I meet wants to screw and have fun. Nobody can explain this to me. Having felt intensely relationship-oriented this past month or so, I can only imagine I've become boring. Because I'm still hot.

There are exceptions to every rule, so don't get offended if you're relationship-oriented. If we're friends, your attractive, ok? I'm too shallow for anything else.

1. I don't have one.

Surprise! Believe it or not, this entire post comes from a place of loneliness and self-loathing! Waah waah waah, where's MY validation? Oh, that's right, my validation didn't call me back. (See above.) If you need me, I'll be cursing men, renouncing love, and spending the rest of my life alone like those women you read about.

Yeah, it's called "being empowered." Look it up.

He hired the PI.

Kevin: oh you know they will

Ben and Arthur Rating

He's in it to win it with the hottie.
Who just got shot AGAIN.

Kevin: why does he keep getting shot

me: Blondie does it.
Or arranges it. I'm not really sure.
This one he did.
I want the PI back.

Kevin: what does he look like?

me: He's like 19 with a twinky face, brown hair, and thick eyebrows.
Eew, more naked for fatty.

Kevin: why is he getting naked so much?

me: EEW BUTT SHOT!
I DON'T EVEN KNOW!
God.

Kevin: hahaha

me: Man, the last 10 minutes of this movie are like Fattie'sbuttapalooza.

Kevin: that's so disturbing
maybe he wants to advertise his ass

me: Oh, it'sover.

Kevin: how did it end?

me: Bloodbath.
Oh, he made it with Adobe Premiere.

Unoriginal Whiny Gay Blogger Crap Based on Sweeping Stereotypes, Canned Emotions, and a Severely Limited Homosexual Worldview: My Annual Allotment

In Which I Am Deluded Enough to Believe I Am Different From Everyone Else

The results of my poll have been overwhelming. Of one participant (so far) 100% of responses indicate that indeed everyone in New York City is an emotional fuckjob.... at least among gay men, which is pretty much what I meant.

As it turns out, if you're not a loser with no future, then you're a crazy workaholic who only has time for a little after-hours bump-n-grind as long as you're up for your conference call. If you're not falling in love with everyone you meet at the drop of a hat, then you can't commit to more than a "you seem cool" because you're seeing three other guys.

You've all dealt with this. Then, FINALLY, you find someone who wants to properly date, but after going out a couple times, oh it turns out they have GROSS emotional problems and run away or smack you (true story) or otherwise make you wish they didn't exist. What the hell is everybody's problem? Sex and the City was supposed to be fiction, people!

Look, I know not every guy I meet is going to be a candidate for Mr. Righthood. I have no problem with a one-night stand or a shallow, just-for-fun relationship because sometimes that's all that something's gonna be. It takes all types, right? Those things are fine as long as it's established (even non-verbally) that that's all the relationship is. But doesn't anybody want to try out the long-haul thing?

Let me rephrase that. Doesn't anybody my age who's not socially deficient want to try the long-haul thing? Because I've met enough internet-trolling basement dwellers taking their monthly break from World of Warcraft to try and cast Lvl 16 Romance on me to last a lifetime. (...said the member of the NYC Buffy the Vampire Slayer Fanclub.)

I'm also well aware that some people are just not into me. I mean, fine, we go on a date, you change your mind. Whatever. But sometimes, GOD, can't people smell chemistry? If we spend an awesome evening together doing dinner and drinks and walking without a break in the lively conversation and then go home and spend an even more lively night together... WHY not call me back? But, fine. If we spend all week together fawning and gazing and being more comfortable than we've ever felt with someone so early on in a relationship, why suddenly stand me up with no explanation?

It's a matter of respect. That's what I'm upset about here. If you don't want to be with me, ok, but don't put on a show. Don't act all perfect gentleman on our first couple dates only to call me a couple days later asking to come over and fuck. Don't just disappear without a trace when it's clear we owe each other more than that. Don't pretend I'm the only person you're seeing if all you want to do is casually date a few people. I won't care! I won't care until I get invested, and I'll only get invested if I think you are.

Since I moved to this city, I've dated exactly two people who I was into and who were relationship-oriented, level-headed, and respectful. I remain friends with both of them. They didn't work out, but you'll never catch me bitching about them. Everyone else I find myself liking has played some sort of game that involved not being up-front with me. And I'm tired.

Soy on Boy Action

This article at first struck me as a joke. I mean WorldNetDaily may be useless and ignorant, but that doesn't mean it completely lacks a sense of humor. I thought a little self-parodying might be possible. But no. I realized it was all serious, and as usual when I leave that site, I was filled with the complex combination emotion of amusement, befuddlement, anger, and fear. Also as usual, the anger and fear stick around a bit longer than the others.

Yes, I know it's just another Christian whackjob (NOT to be confused with the regular Christian who is good and fun and intelligent, don't turn this into some comment on Christinanity, it is about ONE freakshow with ONE receding hairline) being ignorant on the internet, but it still bugs me. It bugs me because the number of people who are vocal about stuff like this is rising faster than my estrogen level after my morning Starbucks run. But anyway, back to soy. Let's break it down.

If you're a man, you're suppressing your masculinity and stimulating your "female side," physically and mentally.

I don't think I alone am of the opinion that this this is a fabulous idea for every man to do.

Research is now showing that when you feed your baby soy formula, you're giving him or her the equivalent of five birth control pills a day. A baby's endocrine system just can't cope with that kind of massive assault, so some damage is inevitable. At the extreme, the damage can be fatal.

I kinda think that if hippie babies were dying left and right from soy poisoning, we'd have heard of it by now.

Soy is feminizing, and commonly leads to a decrease in the size of the penis, ...

Whoa! Ok, I can list for you about 100 men who will attest that my penis has not shrunk including one auctioneer who has sworn in a drunken barroom to this fact.

... sexual confusion ...

No, I pretty much get it.

... and homosexuality.

This is one of those logical leaps we were taught against in the 3rd grade. Then again, I can't deny it from personal experience except to say that growing up, my family consumed all parts of the cow, so my gayness cannot be due to the degenerative effects of soy. But that's a logical leap as well. So I suppose I'll respond with "Bullshit!"

Homosexuals often argue that their homosexuality is inborn because "I can't remember a time when I wasn't homosexual." No, homosexuality is always deviant. But now many of them can truthfully say that they can't remember a time when excess estrogen wasn't influencing them.

Ok, I'm thinking really hard, and the only time I can remember this happening is once when I was 6 and my friend wanted to play G.I. Joe and I wasn't in the mood and he said "Wow, your estrogen levels must be high today." But that's it. Once.

Research in 2000 showed that a soy-based diet at any age can lead to a weak thyroid, which commonly produces heart problems and excess fat. Could this explain the dramatic increase in obesity today?

I hope I'm not out of line, but I'm going to posit that the increase in fatness has been caused by people eating more fat. Fast food, huge portions, and our fabulous lack of self-control seems more likely than soy to be the problem. But go ahead if you like. Eat less soy and more meat and see what happens.

P.S.: Soy sauce is fine. Unlike soy milk, it's perfectly safe because it's fermented, which changes its molecular structure. Miso, natto and tempeh are also OK, but avoid tofu.

Thanks. And speaking of soy sauce and miso, people in East Asian countries are huge consumers of soy. Where's their obesity and rampant homosexuality? (I'm going to avoid and obvious and racist joke about penis size.) But c'mon, shouldn't China and Japan be the world's largest producers of sumo sodomites? What does your "research" say about that.

Ok, I'm done. It's time for lunch. I'm going to get this tofu bowl thing from the Japanese place down the street. I'm hoping that with the venti soy latte I had this morning (upgraded from grande in honor of this article), I'll get myself up to a C-cup. My no-milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.

The Gift of Anal Health

I hate when I'm tracking a package that says "Departed from Jersey City a million days ago at 6:00 a.m." and it still hasn't come to my door. Seriously, Jersey City is so close I could pee out my apartment window and completely clear it (and if I get even one comment about a 20 mile long penis, I'm deleting my blog and never using the internet again.) So what the hell, where is my shit, POSTAL SERVICE?

The package is my Hannukkah present to myself, and I'm not telling you what's in it because you'll all think I'm a loser for ordering a box set of the Harry Potter video games, but there's also a book that I really want to start reading and another book and some other stuff you'd all hate. Anyway there's no way I'd GO to Jersey to get the stuff myself because I don't think my vaccinations are up to date so all I can do is complain.

Speaking of vaccinations, that reminds me of today's blog entry topic. Following the example of countless underpaid 20-something males, I think I'm going to get paid to receive an experimental vaccination. There's this doctor I met who specializes in gay men's sexual health and is administering a vaccine for HPV (human papillomavirus), which is not approved for use in men in the U.S. yet, though it's given to both men and women in Europe and Australia. The virus is sexually-transmitted and has many forms, but the yuckier ones cause genital and anal warts and can lead to cervical and anal cancer. It's one of the most wide-spread STDs we've got, but lots of people ride it out without noticing symptoms. Apparently we've (meaning gay men've) all probably had it at some point, which yucks me out pretty bad. But anyway.

In a lot of places, the vaccine is becoming mandatory for pre-adolescent girls and has been shown to be 100% effective in pretenving certain strains of HPV. Since I'm not ever wanting to say the sentence "I have anal warts/cancer" but I AM wanting $75 and a free STD screening, I think I'm gonna do it. The doctor's super nice, really open, and most importantly, a gay Jew. His name is Stephen Goldstone.

If any of you are in the New York area and wanna get a shot of Wart-B-Gone, let me know and I'll give you his information that you can easily find for yourself on the internet.

Actually, that's a little misleading. The vaccine won't get rid of warts. It only works if you don't already have them.... but I still think Wart-B-Gone is a funny name that I made up all by myself.
